PROJECT:

Murder 101 follows a high school sociology class investigating a series of unsolved murders in Tennessee. I designed the murder board and typography treatment for the documentary series, working with director Stacey Lee.

The brief was to make the board feel like something the students were actively working on. Notes, sketches, printed evidence and tactile details needed to sit together without looking too neatly resolved.

Research + Layout

I explored two approaches: an ordered grid of folders and documents around a central map, and a more layered arrangement of photographs, annotations and connections. Both paired monospaced and serif typography with handwritten notes, testing how much structure the board needed before it stopped feeling like work in progress.

Eight Feet of Information

The board measured eight by four feet. My work covered its layout, graphic elements and color palette, bringing a large amount of case material into one physical space. The design had to leave room for the investigation to keep growing.
